Human life in virtual dimension

Did human attitudes changed with the development of information technology? Have you ever think that you wouldn't do this or react like this if you were engaging peoples or situations physically compare to virtually using the information technology?

I think the answer is quite obviously...YES. Physical and virtual is very different environment. In physical environment you can feel the untold signal radiated from the person you are communicating with (of course this still depends on the sensing mode of the person who's receiving it). But in virtual environment, most of the time, it's based on visual and most likely our own imagination.

You could say that the virtual environment stimulates human instinct to manipulate. This made it easier for us to use the advantage of exist in virtual environment to build our own personalities. We can be anyone with thousands of different kind of characteristics within the virtual environment.

So what should be our online attitudes within the virtual environment? This kind of questions should not have any clear answer at all. It's like asking someone 'what should be the correct way to live your life?' But both are very serious questions that peoples should ask themselves as virtual environment is invading more and more into our life.

The answers in my book has listed below points thus far:
  1. Global's mindset; Local's action
  2. Subscribe to popular websites that are only belong to our own hardcore interest category.
  3. Be a responsible information disseminator and commenter.
  4. Don't provide too much of private information.
  5. Keep up the curiosity level to selectively try different things.
I believe there's no need for me to elaborate further on each of the points above, it's pretty simple and straight forward. Just stick with these in minds when we are in the virtual dimension and we will be doing fine or even excel.

Oh, there's one last point that's the most important of all which I forgot to mention above. We must limit our online duration!!!

Why?

Because we still need the physical environment to have an excellent life!

Smartphones era

Smartphone is certainly become one of the few fastest growing market in Malaysia today thanks to the price of wireless broadband services that become lower and lower by month. The integration continues where innovators are combining the function and features of mobile phone and personal computer together.

From the day of personal computer was only available in desktop form till today where it keeps revolving towards mobile form because those scientists and engineers keep shrinking the size of the transistors and in the meantime improving it's performance.

So, looking at the drama of competition that keep unfolding, what are the advantages that we should take here?

1.Communicate farther and cheaper in the state of mobile
Smartphone had somehow enhance the capability of the telecommunication companies to deliver their services in different form. People are using more and more data communications replacing voice communications. With the price of wireless broadband tumbling down further, we can expect more people to use instant messaging to communicate. In fact, geographical distance doesn't correlate with cost in the world of data communication.

2.Buy worthily by getting one that already out in the market for at least 6 months
Don't buy those that just released. Of course price is one of the factor but the main factor is normally the firmware still won't be stable. Developers these days has got limited time to really debug all the problems in the software so most of the early birds would become guinea pigs. Besides, wait for 6 months would give you opportunity to get lower price and you are not only getting the phone that are 'problem free' right away but also many applications are ready for you to download and utilize them.

3.Improve life experience in Business or Entertainment
It's either a marketing decision or competency limitation from the phone manufacturer, smartphone has comes either with good business function or caters for entertainment. Of course there are also some models that claiming they are all rounder. But I don't believe that.
If you want entertainment, you will need below features:
-Big display screen
-Good camera photo shooting
-Good audio quality
-Modern Design Styling
-Gaming applications

If you want those that satisfy your business need, these are the functions you should have:
-Keyboard
-Operating system that smooth and high PC compatibility (ex:Windows mobile,iPhone)
-Productivity applications that can synchronize with PC
-Good internet connectivity
-Professional Solid Design Styling

4.Link your business to smartphone's application
With things become popular with more and more people involving, that's where the customers being created. Recently, Malaysia Airlines (MAS) had launched an application for mobile phone to enable their customers to book ticket or check the flight time available with them via smartphone.Of course, MAS is one of the many companies that beginning to utilize this. More and more companies will follow soon by building applications as linking platform to the smartphone. This will enable consumers to do business directly with them and it's going to further bring down some business of people who is doing middleman stuff like those ticket agents.

5.Every references can be at your finger tips
You don't have to search through those thick reference books/files such as dictionary or encyclopedia anymore. All the reference items can be digitized and you can access them anywhere and anytime with the smartphone. For those scholars that used to search through thick files for references, it's a good news that they can save so many time. It's like an extended memory for human brain, almost everything can be recorded and refer back with only movement of your finger tips within few seconds.

Well, is that all that we can grab? Not really. Most of them are here but there are still plenty of things that we could certainly seize the advantage. Not to mention feature like Global Positioning System (GPS) that's now integrated in smartphone as well making navigation ever becoming easier than ever before. This could further bring up the 'back-pack tourism' business segment.

Hence, for those that still got doubt whether you should own a smartphone, please start to do some surveys and get one that suits your way of living. It will certainly make a big different in your life experience.

Information technology revolution continues

I really wanted to start doing this long time ago. The first time I finished reading 'The world is Flat' written by Thomas L. Friedman, I'd told myself that somehow I must get involve in this flattening world in order to keep my survival story of having fun in the world to continue...

The potential of changing people's life around the world is happening here and there day by day in a unimaginable pace as the revolution towards the age of information technology continues. The moment you stop catching up with the development that has become quite common may not be a disaster for you, but it will leave you living many years behind the others indeed. In fact, competitiveness to collaborate with others will be lost.

This kind of revolution is changing the way people make their living... Of course the essence of living will still be in-tact.People still need basic things to live (or should I say 'survive') like eating, clothing, staying, entertaining but the way they obtain the basic things had keep changing. Everything is digitized to make jobs done in an faster and convenient manner and in the meantime provide you tons of options. New form of enjoyment keep appearing to attract the curiosity and give refreshment of thought to how people define entertainment.

The most important aspect here is everyone want to be their own protagonist in their own world. This revolution that provide tons of customization has provided them the platform to do just that.

This shouldn't be the discussion of this post anyway. The discussion point is how much we(ordinary man-on-the-street) can discover and make use of the advancement on this?

Stay tune if you have some ideas on how to survive (or have fun) by harnessing the changes that are happening everyday in a faster pace that you could never imagined... Let the story begins...
